Redefining Entrepreneurship Through Strengths

Entrepreneurship is often portrayed as a high-octane pursuit—driven by competition, financial ambition, and relentless hustle. But what if that narrative doesn’t fit you? What if your entrepreneurial journey is rooted in creativity, impact, and emotional intelligence?
That’s my story. And it’s the story of many founders I coach.
I never set out to be an entrepreneur. I didn’t dream of building a business. I was nudged into it by circumstance—by necessity, not ambition. But what I discovered along the way was something powerful: I had entrepreneurial strengths. I just hadn’t named them yet.
Discovering the Builder Within

When I took the BP10 assessment, it was like someone handed me a mirror. It revealed talents I’d been using all along—strategic thinking, ideation, influence—but hadn’t recognised as entrepreneurial.
There’s a predictable pattern I’ve noticed among entrepreneurs: many created businesses when they were young. They may have had Saturday jobs or casual employment, but overwhelmingly, the entrepreneurs I work with built their own ventures early on. A homemade lemonade stand outside their house. Selling golf clubs on eBay. Or, as I did, a sound and light hire company at age 15 with a friend.
We didn’t do it for the money. We reinvested every bit of profit into building our stock. We covered our expenses and got invited to all the 18th birthday parties as a result.
I wasn’t driven by financial reward, and I wasn’t competing to win. But I was building something meaningful, innovative, and energising - something that could ripple outward and energise others.
That same pattern repeated 20 years later when I left the public sector and started my own business—seemingly for the first time.
A Different Kind of Entrepreneur

Traditional entrepreneurship often celebrates the “Rainmaker”—the charismatic, competitive, deal-closing founder. But there are other profiles. I was a Builder who thrived on:
Concept design: Creating products and services that solve real problems
Content creation: Communicating ideas with clarity and emotional resonance
Delivery: Facilitating transformation through relating and application
These are the areas where I find energy. Not in the pitch deck or the sales funnel—but in the moment a client has a breakthrough. In the design of a programme that changes how a team works. In the ripple effect of emotionally intelligent leadership I see in my clients as they achieve and succeed. They are all forms of Building, a word I use interchangeably with ‘Entrepreneur’ – it’s all about building something.
Selling Through Strengths
I’ve never enjoyed sales. I understand its strategic importance, but it doesn’t energise me. What does? Designing something that fits. Communicating with purpose. Building relationships that matter.
That’s why I’ve built a strengths-based sales strategy—one that attracts the right clients through thoughtful messaging, emotionally intelligent content, and strategic storytelling.
My blogs, coaching conversations, and workshops are all designed to inspire and engage people who are aligned with my values and approach. People who want to build something meaningful - not just profitable.
Coaching Entrepreneurs: A Shared Journey

One of the greatest joys in my work is coaching other entrepreneurs—especially those who reach into areas of business building that I can’t reach alone.
I see the builder in them. I recognise the bravery, the creativity, the vulnerability it takes to put something into the world that didn’t exist before.
Entrepreneurship is exposing. It’s uncomfortable. It requires a tolerance for risk and a willingness to fail in public. But it also creates space for innovation, impact, and deep human connection.
And when I coach founders, I’m not just helping them build their business—I’m helping them build themselves.

Entrepreneurship doesn’t have to look like the start-up grind. It can look like creativity, connection, and courage. It can be strengths-led, emotionally intelligent, and strategically grounded.
